Students will learn principles and laboratory techniques used in the treatment of partially edentulous patients using removable and fixed dentures, and will prepare for and restore an extracornal amalgam.

This course covers principles and lab techniques used to treat completely edentulous patients, for fabricating anterior porcelain baked to metal crowns, for concepts and techniques of endodontic treatment and restoration of anterior teeth, and for restoring Class II and IV composites.

This course provides the basic principles and laboratory techniques used to treat completely edentulous patients, principles and laboratory techniques for restoring anterior teeth with porcelain veneers, posterior teeth with amalgam, composite, porcelain baked to metal crowns, and fixed partial dentures, and the concepts and techniques of endodontic treatment and restoration of posterior teeth.

This is an elective course designed to introduce pre-doctoral dental students to instructional methods and curriculum development. Preparatory seminars and web-based work reviewing relevant educational literature and student teaching experiences in clinics and laboratories provide experience in teaching and assessment in dental education.

This course provides students with lecture content concerning cosmetic composite techniques, color theory, color matching, indirect and direct posterior composites, all ceramic crowns, Class V and IV composites, diagnostic wax-ups, and cosmetic treatment planning.

186. Sports Dentistry. (1 units) Su, Fa, Wi, Sp, SS1, SS2, SS3. Prerequisites: Completed dental 1st year and be in good academic standing. Restrictions: Must be a registered dental or international dental student. Restricted to 20 students.

This course will be an introduction to sports dentistry with an emphasis on the proper fabrication of a custom mouthguard from impression to delivery. Students will learn proper techniques both in the field as well as in the laboratory as they participate in outfitting a sports team with custom mouthguards.

This course provides students with pre-clinical lab experience on sterile, natural-extracted teeth. Cosmetic composite techniques, color theory, color matching, and exposure to a variety of composite materials will be emphasized. Indirect and direct posterior composites, all ceramic crowns, Class V and IV composites, diagnostic wax-ups, and treatment planning will be performed.

204. Treatment of Tobacco Use & Dependence in Dental Settings. (2 units) § Su, Fa, Wi, Sp. Prerequisites: None. Restrictions: Completion of second year dental curriculum, an accredited dental hygiene educational program, or a graduate dental program. Lecture 1 hours. Seminar 3 hours.

This course will provide knowledge and skills necessary to treat tobacco use and dependence in dental settings. Topics discussed will include: popular types of tobacco and their prevalence of use in the U.S.; health and economic consequences of quitting; challenges to cessation; effective nicotine addiction treatments; approaches tailored to different stages of willingness to quit; pharmacological aides.
