140.01A. Advanced Ophthalmology Clkshp. (3-6 units) Su, Fa, Wi, Sp, SS1, SS2, SS3. Prerequisites: Medicine 110 and Surgery 110 or consent of instructor.

Students will serve as subinterns on the ophthalmology wards. They will work up and present patients, and attend surgery and postoperative clinics. This is an intensive clerkship where students will be on twenty-four hour call the entire time.

140.02. Off-Campus Clerkship. (3-6 units) Su, Fa, Wi, Sp, SS1, SS2, SS3. Prerequisites: Consent of instructor.

Clinical clerkship in approved hospitals by special arrangement and approval by the dean and the chairperson of the department.

140.03A. Advanced Clinical Clerkship. (3-6 units) Su, Fa, Wi, Sp, SS1, SS2, SS3. Prerequisites: Medicine 110 or consent of instructor. Lecture 4 hours.
B. Jeng
Students serve as subinterns on the Ophthalmology Service. They work up and present cases in the outpatient clinic and on the wards; and have the opportunity to participate in the operating room. On-call and weekend responsibilities should be expected.

140.05. Ophthalmology for Primary Care. (3 units) Su, Fa, Wi, Sp. Clinic 20 hours. Patient Contact 20 hours.

Two-week elective providing mastery of eye examination, improving ophthalmology skills, improving accurate visual acuity assessment and screening techniques with slit lamp examination. Patients will be evaluated in an outpatient setting. Didactic instruction will be provided by course preceptors. ( department: MEDICINE )

140.06. Adv Ophthalmology Clerkship. (3-6 units) Su, Fa, Wi, Sp, SS1, SS2, SS3. Prerequisites: Consent of instructor.
A. Naseri
Clinical observation of patients in clinics, wards and surgery.

150.02. Research in Ophthalmology. (6-18 units) Su, Fa, Wi, Sp, SS1, SS2, SS3. Prerequisites: Consent of instructor and chairperson of the department. Project 5 hours.
Staff
A research project under the direction of a member of the faculty carried out in the Department of Ophthalmology.

160.01. Introduction to Clinical Ophthalmology. (1 units) Fa, Wi, Sp. Prerequisites: First year medical student or above. Lecture 1 hours.

Students will gain knowledge of common eye problems that may be seen in family practice, the emergency room and in the ophthalmologist's office. They will learn to formulate a differential and plan of treatment for a patient with eye disease, and use the instuments essential to their diagnosis.

198. Supervised Study. (1-5 units) Su, Fa, Wi, Sp, SS1, SS2, SS3. Library 3-15 hours.

Library research and directed reading under supervision of a member of the faculty with the approval of the chairperson of the department.
