135. General Pathology. (3 units) Fa. Prerequisites: Substantive courses in biochemistry, physiology, histology, microbiology (first quarter, concurrent) or an introduction to immunology. Lecture 3 hours.

135.01. General Pathology. (3 units) Fa. Prerequisites: Completion of prerequisite coursework in human physiology and microbiology or by consent of program director. Lecture 3 hours.

Mechanisms and language of diseases are discussed, with emphasis on the dynamic nature of fundamental disease processes such as cell injury, immunopathology, inflammation, response to infectious agents, repair and regeneration, hemodynamic arrangements, genetic disorders, disturbances of cell growth and neoplasia.

150.02. Off-Campus Pathology Clerkship. (1.5-18 units) Su, Fa, Wi, Sp, SS1, SS2, SS3. Prerequisites: Third or fourth year standing.
Staff
Clinical clerkships in off-campus hospitals approved by the chairperson of the department and the dean.

150.03. Surgical & Autopsy Pathology. (6 units) Su, Fa, Wi, Sp, SS1, SS2, SS3. Prerequisites: Third- or fourth-year standing. Restrictions: Limited to 4 students per month. Laboratory 24 hours. Conference 10 hours. Library 4 hours. Patient Contact 2 hours.
P. Ursell
Under supervision, students will complete one autopsy and work-up surgical/cytology specimens. Student-oriented seminars will address subspecialties (e.g., dermatopath, neuropath, renal pathology) and basic science research in pathology. The rotation may be tailored to the special interests of particular students.

150.05. Research in Pathology. (6-18 units) Su, Fa, Wi, Sp, SS1, SS2, SS3. Laboratory 25 hours. Conference 3 hours. Library 10 hours. Project 2 hours.
Staff
The staff of the Pathology Department have various ongoing research interests and have a number of projects for students to work on. Requires approval of the Dean and the Department. Obtain necessary forms from the Office of Curricular Affairs.

198. Supervised Study. (1-5 units) § Su, Fa, Wi, Sp, SS1, SS2, SS3. Prerequisites: Consent of instructor. Library 3-15 hours.
Staff
Library research and directed reading under supervision of a member of the faculty with the approval of the chairperson of the department.
