UCSF COURSE CATALOG

Course Listing Format

Course listings adhere to the following general format.

The first line gives the course number, title, units (in parentheses), session offered, any prerequisites, course format, and the number of hours per week.

All courses are numbered according to the following system:
100 series = upper division professional course
200 and 300 series = graduate academic course
400 series = postdoctoral professional course.
The meaning of the second (tens) and third (units) digits varies among the schools. A detailed explanation of course numbering is available from the office of the dean of each school.

The number of units is determined by the Committee on Courses of Instruction which aligns course requirements with appropriate credit.

§ This symbol following the units in the course listing designates a course approved for credit toward a graduate academic degree.

The following abbreviations are used to designate the session or quarter in which a course is offered: F = fall quarter, W = winter quarter, Sp = spring quarter, Su = summer term, ST = summer term.

The second line lists the course instructors; the first one listed being the faculty member in charge of the course.

On the third line is an entry describing the course content, followed by the name of the responsible department or unit.
